The Guilderland girl's varsity basketball team made a really good hire when they announced on Thursday that they would be hiring Jeremy Friel as their next head coach.  Friel has such an impressive resume and had several successful seasons under Will Brown at UAlbany and made multiple trips to the NCAA Tournament.  He is a close personal friend and I love his family.  He comes from a basketball family and his father was a tremendous basketball coach. Guilderland is slowly on the rise and needing some changes and they will be trending upward after this move I can promise you that.  Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:

Longtime UAlbany men's basketball assistant coach Jeremy Friel will be named the new head coach of the Guilderland high school girl's basketball program. Friel is great teacher of the fundamentals of the game who grew up in a basketball family and has tremendous knowledge of the game. Friel was part of 4 trips to the NCAA tournament during his nine years under former head coach Will Brown at UAlbany. Great hire by Guilderland whose basketball program just got instantly better.

There is nothing better than a local high school making a great and smart hire that will improve the program and school.  Guilderland girls just got a whole lot better and will be very competitive this year.  Friel is a great mentor who cares about the kids he coaches and has a winning reputation both on and off the court.
