Bills’ Bizarre Offseason Continues with Tryout for New York-Born Pro Lax Player
One word comes to mind when describing the Buffalo Bills' roster-building strategy this offseason: creative.
Back in April, Buffalo spent a seventh-round draft pick on an athlete who had never played a game of organized football before. That said, their selection of rugby star Travis Clayton was viewed as a low-risk, high-reward move by many.
The same could be said for their decision to invite Zed Williams to their rookie minicamp.
For those that do not know, Williams is one of the best professional lacrosse players in the world. Williams plays in the National Lacrosse League, and he and his team, the Colorado Mammoth, won the 2022 NLL Championship, defeating the Buffalo Bandits.
Williams and the Mammoth played the Bandits again in the 2023 Finals, but the Bandits came out victorious in the rematch.
In the outdoor game, Williams previously played in Major League Lacrosse (MLL), and currently plays in the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) after the leagues merged in late 2020. Through six seasons in the NLL, Williams has accumulated 320 total points, and in seven outdoor seasons, Williams has 199 points.

Williams is also expected to take snaps at the tight end position at some point during camp. According to an article written on the Colorado Mammoth's website, this is not intended to be a PR stunt, either.
The Buffalo Bills are reportedly serious about their evaluation of Williams, who stands at 6'4", and is considered by all to be an athletic specimen.
Keep an eye out for him as the spring progresses, Bills' fans.
