Shenendehowa's Ian Anderson is missing the first day of his senior year today. Why? He's traveling back from Japan where he was part of the Team USA 18U National team that just captured Gold at the WSBC World Cup.

Anderson excelled at the event, allowing just one earned run in 9.1 innings. He also struck out 13 in those 9.1 innings.

It's been quite a summer for Anderson, who also pitched at the Perfect Game Classic in San Diego in August.

Anderson, who helped lead Shen to the Class AA Section II title in 2014 and a runner-up spot in 2015, hit as high as 94-95 MPH on the radar gun this summer. He's also got a good breaking ball, a good changeup, and a developed set of mechanics that allow him to consistently work down in the strike zone.

He's already committed to Vanderbilt for college, but this summer could catapult Anderson into the first round of the 2016 MLB Draft, which would force him to choose his path.
