First of all, being a lifelong resident of the area and a supporter of the University of Albany basketball team, I would like to congratulate the Great Danes on their making it to the big dance! It was a hard fought year, and a great performance in their play in game in Dayton. I wish them luck against Florida.
Wow what a lucky break I caught today! I have to tell you it is nearly impossible to get near a driver , even with a press pass. Even when you get a chance to talk to one they are usually in a hurry to get to the next place they need to be. So if I couldn't get an interview scheduled, I did the next best thing, I hijacked someone else's. The best part it was the one guy everyone seems to want to talk to this year, Austin Dillon.
So here I am after many years of coming to Daytona for NASCAR'S annual coming out party, I find myself trying to cover The Daytona 500 for our incredible listeners. I have to be honest, I have no idea what I'm doing or where I can and can't go yet. It should be quite a learning experience but I will do my best to try to get some fun pictures and maybe an interview or two for you.
A lot of people complain about the NFL Pro Bowl, it's not really a competitive game, no one really tries to hard because they don;t want to get hurt, the players from the Superbowl aren't there, etc. I understand all that but for whatever reason I as well as a great many of people still sit down and watch it every year. This year, it's a little different and I have to give the NFL props for trying something new.
Before I begin this letter to Richard for those of you who have not seen the latest in the "trash talking" controversies that Mr. Sherman has found himself in, I will include this video from the post game interview from last night's game.
I should preface this letter by telling you that I am in total awe of not only your skills and talent on the field but also of your achievements in education and charity. I know like me, you come from a place of very little means and even less promise of a bright future. I know that making a commitment as a child to rise above circumstance through hard work and perseverance takes a kind of bravery and yes, bravado that most people will never understand.
So as I watched football yesterday with a houseful of fans of different teams, we tried very hard to come up with all the different playoff scenarios: who had to beat who and who had to lose to see our favorite teams get into the playoffs.
This time of year, it really does get confusing, especially when you are one of those teams like the Patriots, who know they are in, but can wind up being anything from the first to the fourth seed.
When you hear about a story like this, you often feel bad for the guy who maybe tripped, or even drunkenly stumbled, over a railing to fall into the crowd below. In this case, after watching the video you just think, "You stupid moron!"
