Behold, The Next World’s Next Cinematic Genius…Kevin Durant?

I'm not sure if you heard, but rumor has it, Kevin Durant is a pretty good basketball player.

The "Durantula" has shined on the court in every one of his (now) 13 NBA seasons, averaging over 27 points per game, and winning two NBA titles along the way.

Last night, however, Durant added a different form of hardware to his trophy case, and he joins a very, very elite group of NBA players to do what he did.

Durant won an Oscar yesterday evening for his role as an executive producer on the short film, Two Distant Strangers. The film, released on Netflix, follows an African American stuck in a "time loop" that always ends in his death. It provides a powerful commentary on the relationship between African Americans and the police in the United States.

Durant tweeted his congratulations to the film, while the Nets congratulated both Durant and the film on the win.

Fellow NBA player Mike Conley was also an executive producer on the project, scoring the guard an Oscar award. Durant and Conley are now two of three NBA players to ever win the award, with Kobe Bryant winning in 2018 with "Dear Basketball".

It had already been an eventful week for Durant before the Oscar win. He suffered a thigh contusion in an April 18th game against the Miami Heat, forcing him to miss the team's next three games.

He returned to the court yesterday, against the Phoenix Suns, where he scored 33 points off of the bench. His return helped propel the Nets to a 128-119 win. The win moved the Nets to 41-20 on the season, leaving them 1.5 games clear of Philadelphia for first in the Eastern Conference.

For Durant, I'm sure he's hoping an Academy Award is the first of at least two trophies he adds to his collection this year.
