Today is Derek’s Jeter 40th birthday. Forty. The “Captain” is still donning the Pinstripes, manning his shortstop position and occupying his No. 2 spot in the batting order like he did when he was 30.

And while Yanks fans don’t have a game to watch today to celebrate with him, just take today to remember how great Derek Jeter was, and how great he still is.

Whether it’s making catches while running into the stands, hitting walk-off homers, making his signature play deep in the hole, or just being an all-around great leader, Jeter is the player that has defined the last 20 years of baseball moreso than anyone else.

Players with more power, more speed, better averages, they’ve all come and gone since DJ broke into the league, but no one has been more consistent and had more class.

Happy birthday, Derek.
