Guilderland's Andrew Platek scored the game winning field goal last night for the North Carolina Tar Heels against the Miami Hurricanes in a 67-65 victory. The game was televised nationally on ESPN following this year's Heisman Trophy presentation. Platek's field goal was two of his seven points in the contest.

Both fans and media members shared their excitement for the former Capital Region stand out across social media last night.

The 2020-2021 season marks Platek's fourth season with the North Carolina Tar Heels. Due to NCAA rules, this season may not necessarily be Platek's last in Chapel Hill. In October, the NCAA ruled that winter athletes will be granted an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is possible that Capital Region fans may see their local product play one more season with Tar Heels.

Through just five games, Platek is averaging a career high in points per game.

Platek and his North Carolina Tar Heels are scheduled to return to the court this Saturday at home in a conference game against the Clemson Tigers. Tip off in Chapel Hill is set for 7pm on ESPN.
