Johnny Bench, the greatest catcher in the history of Major League Baseball, was in the Capital Region this week for a hip replacement seminar set up by Stryker and St. Peters Hospital. Before his arrival I was able to catch up with Johnny for a couple minutes, to pick his mind on some of the current issue surrounding baseball. During our conversation Bench discussed the coddling of modern day players, steroid abusers in the Hall of Fame and his thoughts on Bud Selig’s expanded playoff system. Bench also made it very clear that he had no interest in discussing his former teammate Pete Rose and his lifetime ban from the game. And I mean, very clear.
