How Awesome Was The NCAA Women’s Tournament In Albany?

This weekend could not have gone any better for the city of Albany overall with the NCAA Women's Tournament at the MVP Arena.  Caitlin Clark and Iowa advanced to the Final Four and took down Kim Mulkey, and Angel Reese of the LSU Tigers.  The atmosphere and crowd was absolutely electric all weekend capped off by Monday night.  This was huge for Albany getting the love and attention on the national scale.  ESPN women's analyst Rebecca Lobo made an interesting comment regarding there being nothing to do in Albany.  She could not have been more wrong if she tried, but thankfully she apologized and retracted her comments.  Doug Gottlieb also made some negative Albany remarks.  There is plenty to do and beyond in Albany and so many awesome teams to root for.  Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:

I have covered many big games in the 38 years at WNYT and never have I seen a better atmosphere then what LSU and Iowa produced on Monday at MVP Arena. There was not an empty seat in the house and while the fans were mostly cheering for Caitlin Clark there was plenty of LSU flavor in the house too. Last year was a phenomenal atmosphere for the NCAA men’s tournament but Women’s Regionals are the best we have seen in terms of attendance and atmosphere. There was not a bigger game anymore else in the country on Monday night in any sport.

It is onto the Final Four vs UConn for Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes.  We could not have asked for a better tournament in Albany so thank you to all for making it possible and best of luck to both Iowa and South Carolina.
