After being diagnosed with a concussion, which he suffered during a collision at the plate, Mets catcher Josh Thole has been placed on the 7-day disabled list.

With Thole down, the Mets have brought up catcher Rob Johnson from Triple A Buffalo. The Mets are unsure as to whether or not Thole will be ready to go after the week off, but opted to avoid the 15-day DL to give them more flexibility in his evaluation. The 7-day list was instituted last year specifically to help teams better handle concussions.

Josh Thole, in his 3rd season with the Mets, was off to a stellar start to the season, batting .284 with 7 RBI. Mike Nickeas is expected to get the brunt of the work behind the plate in his absence.
