After striking out in his first at-bat, Williams faced Baltimore Orioles pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez for the second time and smacked a pitch over the right field fence for his first major league hit and homerun.

Williams was the Yankees fourth-round selection in the 2010 draft.  Many scouts were losing hope on the young outfielder who struggled immensely the last few seasons, but with a lot of work put into his off-season, Williams was able to improve his game and finally make it to the big leagues as the organizations 26th ranked prospect.

In the minors, the 23-year old batted .321 with seven doubles in 20 games at the triple-A level.  He also had no homeruns in triple-A.  Williams is known more for his glove than his bat, much like Yankees call-ups before him such as Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardner.

Williams is playing to stay in the big leagues, but may be sent back down to the minors once either Andrew Miller or Jose Pirela return from injury.
