Interesting notes coming out from Buster Olney in preparation for the Yankees wild-card meeting with the Astros tonight...

Brian McCann is the usual Yankees catcher, and he provides the Yankees with a great power threat in the lineup and has the capability to help take over a game with his bat, but he's hitting .174 throughout the months of September and October.

Joe Girardi cannot afford to have an automatic out in the lineup with the season on the line.

McCann is also hitting just .241 against lefties on the year - although that is better than his .229 against righties.

Although it's just 86 plate appearances, John Ryan Murphy hits .266 against lefties this season and could be a better option than McCann.

What effect could McCann's potential absence have on Masahiro Tanaka, the pitcher for this wild-card game?

Tanaka will work fine with Murphy if Girardi goes that route. But is Girardi brave enough to sit one of his best players?

We will see tonight.
