Report: Buffalo Bills’ Owner Made Racist Comment, Named in Lawsuit

Report: Buffalo Bills' Owner Terry Pegula Named in Racial Discrimination Suit

A story from ESPN and other outlets shared with us that Buffalo Bills' owner Terry Pegula, along with Dallas Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones, were two of the parties mentioned in a racial discrimination lawsuit that has been filed against the National Football League.

The suit was filed by Jim Trotter, a long-time NFL reporter, and references specific instances in which both owners made racially-insensitive comments. These comments were made to different parties, and happened at separate times.

The allegations against Pegula were made by another unnamed reporter, who stated to Trotter and other media members that Pegula made the following comments about the NFL's Black Lives Matter initiatives:

"If the Black players don't like it here, they should go back to Africa and see how bad it is." - Terry Pegula, via ESPN

Jerry Jones, meanwhile, was quoted during a conversation with Cowboys executive Will McClay, as well as Jim Trotter himself. He was speaking on the topic of minority representation in NFL leadership groups, and said this:

"If Blacks feel some kind of way, they should buy their own team and hire who they want to hire." - Jerry Jones, via ESPN

Both Pegula and Jones have issued public denials of these statements.

The intended result of this lawsuit, according to the source, is two-fold. Trotter is seeking damages on behalf of those who were wronged in these scenarios, and that's one side of the coin. The other side is a bit deeper: he wants a full-scale investigation into the discriminatory and/or retaliatory animus of all persons in position of power within the NFL, including the NFL team owners.
