Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson has been charged in an incident that took place on July 14th in St. Louis.

Richardson has been charged with resisting arrest. He was allegedly partaking in a high-speed street race, reportedly going as fast as 143 MPH, and tried to evade law enforcement.

Richardson was also traveling with a 12-year-old child and reports indicate that he had a loaded semi-automatic handgun, and  "a very strong odor of burned marijuana" was present in the vehicle.

Earlier this summer, Richardson was suspended for the first four games of the 2015 season for violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

Ironically enough, news of the arrest broke less than an hour after Richardson apologized for his suspension and vowed to stay clean. This is taken from Rich Cimini's article on ESPN.com:

"I'm not a dope fiend, man," he told reporters. "I apologized to my teammates and this organization. I told them they don't have to worry about my name being in the news again."

As for what's next for Richardson and the Jets?

One of the most important pieces on the Jets defense, Richardson has 11.5 sacks in two seasons.
