Siena’s Closes Terrible Regular Season With Another Brutal Loss To Iona
Can't say the Siena Saints aren't consistent. Consistently bad that is. The Saints closed out the regular season by being thumped at Iona 80-61 and close out the regular season 7-23 (4-14 in MAAC play)
The Saints will open MAAC conference tournament play Friday night as the 9th seed. They will take on the 8th seed, Marist at 7:30 P.M. The winner will get top seed Niagara on Saturday.
Against Iona the Saints were sloppy turning the ball over 20 times. Iona outhustled them with 11 steals to only 4 for the Saints. Iona out rebounded the Saints and for good measure they had 11 more assists as well. Siena has lost 19 of their last 21 conference games.
O.D. Anosike led the Saints with 17 points in his final regular season game. Evan Hymes who shot 3-14 from the floor had 10 points. Iona was led by Lamont Jones with 16 points. 4 Gael starters scored in double digits. Iona finishes 4th in the conference and will take on Canisus Saturday. In other MAAC conference 1st round games, defending champ Loyola of Maryland will tangle with the Jaspers of Manhattan at 9:30 P.M. Saturday. St. Peters will battle Fairfield also on Saturday evening.
