Remember Starting Lineup Action Figures?  They were all the rage in the late 80's and early 90's.

When I was a kid, I collected these things.  And today, I realized that the Mike Mussina figure looks more like me than him.

Honestly, the Mussina figure has reddish/brown hair and the same color eyebrows as I do.  Who designed this thing?

These things look absolutely nothing like the player they’re supposed to look like.

The Starting Lineup action figures are more like a glorified bobble-head doll.  When you get right down to it, only the skin tone changes.  And there might be facial hair for a guy like Wade Boggs.

The poses just look so cheesy – Mussina looks like he’s figure skating.  Not throwing a pitch.

Looking back I don’t understand why these figures were so popular.  They had horrible poses, the players never resembled the real thing and the featured players on each team were questionable.

The 1993 set of players was laughable.

The best LA Dodger was Eric Karros?  Billy Swift was one of two San Francisco Giants featured?  Roberto Kelly was the best Yankee available?

Dean Palmer was actually a Texas Ranger Starting Lineup figure.  Who is Dean Palmer?

I’ve never heard of Dave Fleming and I’m a baseball geek.  Yet, he’s one of two Seattle Mariners figures (Griffey Jr. the other).

Yet, somehow - they are selling these things on Amazon.com for nearly $150.00!

My Mussina figure?  It can be yours for $3.25.
