SUNY Geneseo Cancels Remainder of Womans Volleyball Season Following Hazing Incidents

Arrests, hazing, and drinking have forced the cancellation of the remainder of the volleyball season for SUNY Geneseo.

The western New York college announced on Friday that due to hazing incidents the remainder of the playing season has been cancelled.

High ranking officials at the school made the determination that in “good conscience” they couldn’t go forward with the season.

The volleyball schedule had been suspended after six freshman ladies claimed they were handcuffed, blindfolded and forced to drink vodka during a initiation party back on September 2. All but one girl was involved in the incidents. One of the freshman was hospitalized after the alleged forced drinking.

Arrests have been made of several of the young ladies. 11 current or former volleyball players have been charged with hazing and unlawful dealing with a minor and serving alcohol to minors.

Three of the Geneseo students are Capital Region locals. Alysia Negron of Buffalo, Alexandra Wende of Williamsville and Julia Ganglof of Lancaster were all arrested on Friday. All three are 20 years of age.

Geneseo put out a statement concerning the arrests and the alleged incident. They said, “given the severity of the actions, Geneseo took immediate action to cancel the team’s games and practice sessions during the police investigation, including an upcoming tournament this weekend.”

In total, 11 Geneseo students, including eight members of the volleyball team have been arrested  for several crimes.
