Downtown Albany was buzzing on Friday with the perfect storm of St. Patrick's Day mixed in with round one of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Like any premier sporting event, featuring the best college players in the country, the stars wear out on Pearl Street.

Winning the regular season title in his first two years at the helm of the Siena Saints men's basketball program has apparently gone under the radar for his fellow MAAC coaches and that always seems to be OK with the kid from Clifton Park. Saints' head coach Carm Maciariello has done nothing but win, even under some ridiculously restrictive conditions. So, when the MAAC coaches poll came out Tuesday evening and Siena was picked 8th, I laughed. Nope, certainly not at the Saints but at the coaches that voted.

The long-awaited debut of Basketball Hall of Fame Head Coach Rick Pitino for the Iona Gaels has finally happened. The Gaels were tasked with playing the Big East's Seton Hall for their home opener and even though the Gaels ended up losing 86 - 64 they actually lead by as much a 9 points late in the first half. We all knew that Pitino could still coach but seeing him in action proved that. Meanwhile, we wait to hear when the Siena Saints can start their 2020 - 2021 schedule. I know that the Times Union reported Rick Pitino was interested in the head coaching job at Siena now the Jimmy Patsos has resigned. I'm here to tell you there is no way Pitino will be the next coach at Siena. There's a great chance he'll come to Saratoga for track season but he will not be on the sidelines at the Times Union Center for the next basketball season.
