UAlbany football head coach Greg Gattuso got a nice little contract extension yesterday and it is so well deserved.  The Great Danes are coming off of a historic and special season where they made in all the way to the FCS semifinals for the first time in program history.  This will only help coach recruit new incoming freshmen and bring in transfers from the portal.  Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:

Greg Gattuso received a well-deserved two-year contract extension keeping him at UAlbany through the 2026 season. Gattuso who led UAlbany to the school's first ever CAA Championship and a berth in the FCS National Semifinals only had one-year remaining on his current contract. UAlbany has some key players to replace on both sides of the ball and quarterback is one of them. When you post an 11-4 overall record and finish one win from a spot in the National Championship game good players in the Portal want to play for the Great Danes. That's a credit ton Gattuso and the banner season the Great Danes had in 2023.

The schedule looks pretty favorable on paper for UAlbany in 2024.  The coaching staff seemingly will remain in tact and internally we know how good things are and how well they are run.  Coach Gattuso is a great ambassador for the program and has such a big impact on the campus and community.  His biggest impact is of course on his players and he will be entering year 11 now which is remarkable.  Congratulations coach!
