What a wild weekend it was for high school boys basketball at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.  Green Tech blew out and stunned Colonie winning by over 20 points and the game was over after the first quarter.  Colonie was 22-0 heading into that game but Coach DJ Jones and Green Tech has now won three straight section titles taking home Class AAA here in 2024.  Head coach Mike Grasso and the Niskayuna boys won their first title in 46 years which is just an awesome and incredible story.  And the hometown team Glens Falls won and beat a very good Catholic Central team.  Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:

Green Tech was by far away the best team in Glens Falls on Championship Saturday, and it goes to show you the regular season doesn't mean much. Niskayuna was the best story because they hadn't won a Section II title in 46 years but with Daniel Small back for 2 more years it won't be their last. Glens Falls surprised me by beating Catholic Central. But give Head coach Rob Girard a lot of credit because he had his believing they could win, and their depth helped them pull of the upset of the top seeded Crusaders. Now it's onto the State Tournament to see if any of these teams can win State Championships.

There are still a few more great matchups for sectionals on Monday at Hudson Valley Community College on the girls side.  There is no better time for high school sports than right now and what a weekend it was for games and congrats to all of the winners and winners to come.
