With Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel already off the market, the Yankees made a move on Sunday to bolster their rotation by acquiring righty Brandon McCarthy from the Diamondbacks for Vidal Nuno.

Saddled on the last-place team in the NL West, McCarthy owns just a 3-10 record with a 5.01 ERA.

However, the 31-year-old has a 4.21 career ERA. He went 8-6 with Oakland in 2012.

Nuno, a rookie left-hander, was 2-5 with a 5.42 ERA this season.

The Yankees made another move on Sunday, designating outfielder Alfonso Soriano for assignment. Soriano was hitting .221 on the year. He has said he will take a week to decide his future.
