The Yankees (43-28) and the Mets (39-34) squared off on Sunday night for the final game of the three game series and the Yankees came out on top 6-5 after the marquee starting pitching matchup did not live up to its hype. Both starters C.C. Sabathia and R.A. Dickey were not at their best, neither made it past the sixth inning.

In the third inning the Yankees finally got to R.A. Dickey after failing to score in the second with the bases loaded. In the third inning with the bases loaded Mark Teixeira made the score 1-0 with a sac-fly to right field scoring Curtis Granderson. The very next batter Nick Swisher lifted a three run homer to right field making the score 4-0 Yanks. It was Swishers 11th of the season.

In the fourth inning Sabathia walked leadoff hitter Andres Torres who stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error from Chris Stewart on the play. A Ruben Tejada sac-fly would bring in Torres making the score 4-1.

A Mark Teixeira RBI ground out in the fifth put the Yanks on top 5-1 but the Mets stayed in the game. In the bottom of the fifth a David Wright RBI single made the score 5-2.

In the sixth inning Robinson Cano misplayed a ground ball allowing Josh Turner to reach first that would have been the second out of the inning and opened up a Mets rally. Andres Torres capped it off with a two run single making the score 5-4 and knocking Sabathia out of the game. Cory Wade came on to face Ruben Tejada and Wade could not get the job done. Tejada laced and game tying RBI single to left.

Robinson Cano led off the eighth inning with a monster solo home run to center field off of Miguel Batista putting the Yankees up 6-5. It was Cano’s 16th of the season; fourth this week.

Sabathia finished going 5 2/3 gave up five runs only one earned on nine hits and struck out three. Dickey finished at six innings gave up five runs on five hits and struck out three.

Soriano picked up his 15th save. Boone Logan was the winner (2-0), Miguel Batista the loser (1-2).

The Yankees won the season Subway series 5-1.
