The Yankees couldn't put anything together offensively for most of the game getting shut down by Braves Pitcher Mike Minor who pitched his best game of the season. That would all change in the top of the 8th as Derek Jeter would get a base hit and Minor would be taken out of the game. Reliever Jonny Venters would then give up a single to Curtis Granderson and walk Mark Teixeria. Alex Rodriguez would come to the plate and tie the game with a Grand Slam. That shot would tie Lou Gehrig's record for career Grand Slams with 23.  Robinson Cano would single which would lead to Cory Gearrin being brought in to pitch. Gearrin couldn't keep it at a tie as Nick Swisher would blast a Home Run to take the lead.

The Yankees Bullpen would take over as Clay Rapada and Rafael Soriano would take care of the Braves in the 8th and 9th to secure the win.

The Mets would beat the Rays 11-2 on Tuesday as well so the Yankees now have sole posession of first place in the AL East.  The Yankees will go for the sweep on Wednesday as Hiroki Kuroda will take the mound for the Yankees taking on Tim Hudson for the Braves.
