The fans of the Adirondack Thunder have had to wait a long time to see their hockey team take the ice at the Cool Insuring Arena but today we know when that wait will come to an end. The Thunder will host the Newfoundland Growlers in their home opener of the 2021 - 2022 season on October 23rd, 2021.

Just like many teams across all sports, the Thunder opted out of the 2020 - 2021 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The good news is they're coming back. It's almost impossible to accurately figure out just how much the teams and athletes at the ECHL level were affected by the pandemic. So hearing that the Thunder are returning this year is great news.

According to an article in the Post Star” team President Jeff Mead said in a news release “We are thrilled to be able to announce to our fans our home opener for the 2021-22 season, we know our fan base and community has suffered this winter without Thunder hockey. We are forever grateful to our fans, corporate partners and community that has helped support us during this difficult time.”

With any luck restrictions on indoor sporting events will continue to relax between now and October 23rd. The Cool Insuring Arena holds approximately 4,800 people, so a restriction greater than allowing 50 to 75% would make hosting games very tough for the Thunder. Information about ticket sales for the New Jersey Devils' affiliate will be released at a later date but you can place a $1 deposit on 2021 - 2022 season tickets now at the Thunders' website.
