A plane carrying the Lokomotiv hockey team of the KHL crashed today just outside of Moscow killing all but two of the passengers. Albany Devils prospect Alexander Vasyunov was among the dead. He played in 50 games for Albany (AHL) last season and had eight goals, 17 assists and 25 points.

The plane was carrying the players after a game against Dinamo Minsk, the opening game in the CHL season.

Among the dead was Slovakian forward and national team Captain Pavol Demitra.  Pavol played in the NHL here in the states for the St. Louis Blues and for the Canadian team the Vancouver Canucks. The exact players that were on the plane have not been confirmed but the only survivor from the players on board was Alexander Galimov.

There were top players from all over the world on the plane. Eroupian Stars such as Czech defenseman Karel Rachunek, Czech Forward Josef Vasicek, Russian defensemen Ruslen Salei and Karlis Skrastins, and Swedish goalie Stefan Liv.

Prime Minister Vladimr Putin immediately dispatched the Russian Transport Minister to the site of the crash 150 miles out side Moscow. More details to come as they are released.

Former NHL Star Brad McCrimmon was on the flight and is as of now believed to be among the dead.
