The Albany High football team made a big splash on Friday, hiring former UAlbany defensive coordinator Mike Simpson as its newest defensive coordinator. It's not often you get to bring in a guy with 28 years of experience at the college level.

We brought in head coach Joey DiPiazza to talk about the addition to his staff, his expectations in Year 2, how he continues to develop the culture at Albany High and about how some of his players are getting big-time notice on the college recruiting trail.

The Falcons had a lengthy losing streak in Section II, Class AA games but snapped that last season against Colonie - and then went on to win two crossover games.

The team opens up the season this year against Saratoga, the reigning Section II, Class AA champs and a NYS finalist.
