Latest Updates on Water Main Break in Albany; Impact on Morning Commute
As was reported on Sunday morning, a water main near Empire State Plaza in Albany has broken, leading to flooding on the roads of the South Mall Arterial.
Take a look at this photo of the flooding in the area:
As mentioned by CBS 6, here are the roads that are being impacted by the break:
- 787 on-ramp at the South Mall arterial
- South Swan Street at Hudson Avenue
- South Swan Street at Jay Street
Crews are still working diligently to repair the damaged main, after shutting off the water flow that was being fed through it.
That said, CBS 6 surmised that the work being done may bleed into Monday. That work will lead to lane closures and delays in the area, which will likely impact your Monday morning commute if you use that route.
Naturally, Albany police are urging residents to seek alternate routes to avoid traffic back-up in that area.
News10 ABC shared that no residents who live in the area are expected to lose water service. That said, if you live on or near the roads that are listed above, it's recommended that you flush your water for 5-10 minutes out of an abundance of caution.
