The Knicks, who open the season on Thursday in Brooklyn’s new Barclays Center, were hoping that Stoudemire would only miss 2 weeks or so after rupturing a cyst on his knee in an exhibition game on the 19th. Stoudemire has had numerous knee issues in his career, which further fuels speculation about his ability to fully recover this season.

Amare has a disappointing season last year, averaging 17.5 points a game, well under the 25.3 he put up in his inaugural season with the team. Stoudemire is entering the 3rd year of a 5 year, $100 million contract. The Knicks team officials are expected to make an official announcement later today.
