
Upstate NY College Hoops Icons Set to Reunite in Capital Region This Week
Two Upstate New York basketball icons are set to reunite in the Capital Region later this week for an event that is sure to be memorable for college hoops fans in our area.
The event will be the next in a long list of collaborations between two Syracuse legends: Jim Boeheim and Gerry McNamara.
Boeheim and McNamara will take part in a panel discussion on Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 6-8 p.m. at The Crowne Plaza Albany – The Desmond Hotel, located at 660 Albany Shaker Road in Albany.
The panel will also feature special guest Jim Cahill, an Albany native who spent 40 years as an NCAA referee. Cahill is currently the supervisor of officials for the Big East Conference.

The panel discussion itself, moderated by ESPN's Doug Sherman, will take place from 7:05PM - 7:45PM on Wednesday. Here is the full schedule of events, per the Siena Saints' official website:
- 6:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.: VIP Sponsor Reception
- 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.: General Reception
- 7:00 p.m. –7:05 p.m.: Opening Remarks, Siena College President, Chuck Seifert, Ph.D.
- 7:05 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.: Panel Discussion featuring Jim Boeheim, Gerry McNamara, John Cahill, and Siena Athletic Director John D'Argenio
- 7:45 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.: Audience Q&A
McNamara, the long-time Syracuse assistant/associate head coach, was named the 19th head coach in Siena Saints' men's basketball history on March 29, 2024.

Before coming to Loudonville, McNamara spent 15 years on staff at Syracuse. He was named a full-time assistant coach under Jim Boeheim in 2011, and was elevated to associate head coach for of the 2023-24 season, after fellow assistant coach Adrian Autry was named the program's next head coach.
Siena begins their 2024-25 season with an exhibition contest against Hobart on October 26th at the UHY Center. Their first non-conference game is set for November 4th against Brown at MVP Arena.
Siena's first MAAC game is set for December 6th, a road contest against Niagara.
