Capital Region Greatest Sports Moment Bracket: 1st Round Matchup 6
This week on 104.5 the Team we are continuing up the #CapitalRegionGreatestSportsMomentBracket as we are trying to crown the best sports moment in the history of the Capital Region as decided by you! Today's matchup is the second time we have a returning competitor as they won a previous play-in game. Who will advance to the next round to face the 1984-85 RPI College Hockey Title? Does anyone smell an upset?
(1) Kevin Huerter Drafted by Atlanta Hawks
By now you know the name Kevin Huerter and that is for a multitude of reasons. First and foremost it is the impressive early career he has cut out so far in the NBA. But the moment people will remember is when his name was called at the NBA Draft in 2018 as the 19th pick! It was not the first time we have had this moment in the Capital Region but it certainly was one we all remember as evidenced here:
(8) Niskayuna Native Jeff Blatnick Wins Gold Medal in 1984 Olympics
Blatnick won national championships in the late 70's in NCAA Division 2 and qualified for the 1980 Olympics but the USA boycotted them so he was unable to compete in them. He got his chance in 1984 and boy did he deliver. He won the Gold in Olmympic Greco-Roman +100 kg becoming the first American to win Gold in that event along with Steve Fraser that year.
