I've done something bold. I've taken the ten professional "big four" sports teams in the state of New York, and I've ranked their jerseys from one to ten. Do you agree?
National Hockey League has announced a shutdown starting after Tuesday night's games. This will be the first major league to completely shutdown action since 2020 because of the pandemic. Actually, the 'shutdown' sounds worse than it is.
Across the NFL, NBA and NHL, teams in the state of New York are fighting separate battles against outbreaks of COVID-19. It's a frightening time in NY sports.
I laugh when people say that 'the Capital Region is a bad sports town.' Really? When people say that I sometimes feel that they are trying to find something wrong with everything. If you feel like I do, it's time to look at the facts. This is actually a pretty good sports 'town.'
The New York Islanders are dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak on their team. It's become a mess, and no one is at fault but the National Hockey League itself.
The Cross Island Parkway was experiencing delays on Saturday from about 3:30pm until about 7:30pm. It was not a surprise with the New York Islanders opening the doors to their new facility. The wait was finally over. The puck was dropping at the UBS Arena located at Belmont Park at 7pm.

Donald is the owrer of the Blue Line Deli in Huntington. His family owns Bagel Boss, a Long Island bagel chain that pretty much knocks it out of the park at every location. In March of 2020, no I am not kidding you, Donald Rosner decided to take his family knowhow and go out on his own. Just as the pandemic started, he opened his "New York Islander themed" deli. Rosner is a huge Islanders fan and huge is probably an understatement.
Who is the Capital Region's most beloved sports team? I think we know but let's take a look anyhow. There are probably some major professional sports teams and leagues that we can toss immediately. The NHL is easy to toss. Besides the lack of general popularity, a direct result of Gary Bettman's reign as commissioner, the NHL fanbase in the Capital Region is too fractured.
While only an estimated 10-15 NHL players remain unvaccinated, the New York Islanders have one of them, and Bode Wilde's future with the club is up in the air.
