One of college basketball's most famous rivalries will return this weekend. For the first time in three seasons the Syracuse Orange and Georgetown Hoyas will tip off against one another during college basketball's regular season. After Syracuse had left for the ACC for the 2013-2014 season, the rivalry between the Hoyas and Orange seemed to be coming to an end. Instead, both schools have decided to renew the rivalry as non-conference opponents  This Saturday the game tips off in Washington DC at 1pm. Georgetown will host the Orange at Verizon Center next in the 2017-18 seasons, and the Hoyas will visit the Carrier Dome in 2016-17 and 2018-19. Exact dates have not been set. The Orange won the most recent game between the teams, 58-55 in the 2013 Big East tournament. The teams split fourteen meetings overall in the Big East tournament. They met five times in the final, with the Hoyas winning four of those meetings. Six of twenty meetings from 2003-13 overall went to overtime, with the Orange winning five of those. These year's meeting includes the head coaching debut of Mike Hopkins for Syracuse. Coach Hopkins will be the head man on the Syracuse bench for the next nine games as Coach Jim Boeheim begins to serve his nine game suspension handed down by the NCAA. Boeheim's suspension was originally intended to begin during conference games but a recent appeal allowed Coach Boeheim to begin serving it as soon as possible.
