Do Injuries or Losses Make a Fan Base Panic More?
There are separate panic meters running for the two preseason favorites in the American League East. The injuries continue to pile up for the Yankees (CC Sabathia came off the IL Saturday, one day after Gary Sanchez was sidelined by injury) and the Red Sox are off to the worst start by a defending World Series champ since the 1998 Marlins. That qualifier on Boston this season isn't an apples-to-apples comparison. After then-Florida won it all in '97, the team of stars was disassembled; the Red Sox are almost a carbon copy of last year's team.
As of Sunday morning, both the Yankees and Red Sox are under .500, so when is it no longer still "early" in a Major League Baseball season? We take Tim Kurkjian's temperature on that as well as the never-ending free agencies of Craig Kimbrel and Dallas Keuchel.
