Two weeks after being cut off as he took aim at the lead in the Kentucky Derby, War of Will has his win in a Triple Crown race and trainer Mark Casse has his first Preakness Stakes victory.

War of Will broke from the 1 post at Pimlico and when the rail opened up in the stretch, he sneaked through and took the shortest way home to the wire in the second leg of the Triple Crown. After the race, Casse was asked if this was redemption for what happened at the Derby, but he quickly refuted that notion, saying he's happy his horse just got a fair shot. Longshot Everfast (25-1) finished second and Owendale rounded out the trifecta.

The 144th running of the Preakness was not without excitement and a scary incident however. As Bodexpress broke from the starting gate, he tossed jockey Johnny Velazquez who was not injured in the fall or subsequent moments. Bodexpress continued on and ran the entire race (he did not win).
