Is Juan Soto turning a corner?
The New York Mets made by far the biggest splash of the MLB offseason when they signed slugger Juan Soto to a 15 year $765 million contract. His first few months as a member of the team has been sporadic to say the least, with incredibly high expectations included. After having his best month of the season however, Juan Soto may be finally showing Met fans what they can expect from their new franchise star in the years to come.
Before we talk more about Soto, one thing has to be made clear. Despite his early struggles at the plate this season, the Mets have still appeared as one of the top teams in the league. Stellar pitching and other hitters stepping up have propelled the Mets to one of the best records in the National League, and a chance to win one of the most competitive divisions in baseball.

Soto's months of April and May go down as the worst of his career thus far, posting batting averages of .232 in April and a career low .219 in May. Although, as the temperature outside rises so does Soto's batting average. In his career his best months come in July, which he hits .306 during. It's pretty safe to say Soto is going to have another good July this year, especially after a scorching hot month of June.
Soto since June 1st is posting a 1.208 OPS and is hitting .338. He's also almost doubled his home run total and the month hasn't even ended yet. Soto's surging bat unfortunately has coincided with struggling pitching, from the same staff that was the best in baseball throughout the first couple months. Because of this the Mets record in June hasn't reflected Soto's spectacular play, sitting at a lackluster 10-9 as of June 22nd.
Mets fans can at least rejoice over Juan Soto's recent play. Let's also not forget, the MLB season is incredibly long, so New York has PLENTY of time to work out the kinks surrounding Soto, but if Soto continues to hit like this the Mets will be sitting exactly where they want to be in October.
