We're almost there! It's almost time to lace up the cleats, put on the pads, bring out the field hockey sticks, re-string the tennis rackets and enjoy your weeks with local high school sports action.

But before that, we have to say goodbye to the summer and the athletes of spring/summer that helped us bridge the gap between spring and fall sports.

Our final "ESPN 104.5 Athlete of the Week" is Hoosic Valley two-sport star, John Rooney. Rooney earns the award for his body of work on both the basketball court and the baseball field.

After leading Hoosic Valley to a state basketball championship in March, Rooney was named New York State Class C Player of the Year. All he did for an encore in the spring season was do the exact same thing.

Rooney led the Indians on the mound and at the plate. He hit .448 with 29 RBIs while adding 11 wins and a 0.51 ERA en route to another title and POY honor.

Rooney will be back at Hoosic Valley for his senior season in 2014-15, and has already committed to play baseball at Siena.
