Familiar Football Name Beats UAlbany on Homecoming
Twelve years ago, UAlbany pulled off arguably the biggest upset in program history. Then a member of the NEC, the Great Danes went to Delaware and knocked off the the eleventh ranked team at the Division I-AA level. Quarterbacking the Blue Hens in 2006 was soon-to-be first round NFL Draft pick Joe Flacco.
Onto 2018 and a visit to Casey Stadium by the thirteenth ranked Towson Tigers. The historical tie-in? A Flacco at quarterback. Saturday was homecoming for UAlbany and the younger Flacco, Tom, looked right at home at times. He ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more while handing UAlbany a 56-28 loss.
The Great Danes, meanwhile, have lost three in a row and are searching for some answers on defense while looking for their first CAA win in 2018. Things certainly won't get any easier as they go on the road to a previously nationally-ranked Maine team (the Black Bears lost at William & Mary on Saturday) before returning home to face Delaware.
