Exciting news for Astros prospect and former Tri-City ValleyCat star JD Davis, who was named the Minor League Baseball Player of the Month for May!

As per the ValleyCats tweet, he hit nine homers and drove in 25 for the month while playing for the Corpus Christi Hooks (AA). Davis is hititng .244 for the year with those nine home runs and 33 RBIs.

He spent part of the 2014 season in Troy after being drafted in the third round out of Cal State Fullerton. Also on that Hooks roster this season are 2014 'Cats Derek Fisher, Mott Hyde, Alfredo Gonzales, Nick Tanielu, and Joe Musgrove.

Davis is a third baseman and certainly has the power and gap-to-gap hitting ability to continue to rise through the Astros system.

Third base is also a position the 'Stros are light on at the Major League Level. Shortstop and 2B however are obviously filled by Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve.
