When I was younger, I had this video, "1996: The Year in Sports." It was a Sports Illustrated "Year in Review" and it had highlights and clips from the year in sports. It was narrated by Marv Albert.

I loved that video. I watched it over and over. On the college football portion of the video, the main star was Lawrence Phillips, a Nebraska running back who helped the Cornhuskers win the 1995-1996 title.

Phillips also helped the 'Huskers win the 1994-95 title.

But as good as he was on the field, Phillips was equally (or more) rough off of it. He was arrested multiple times in his life and on Wednesday, we caught wind of this:

Phillips was the number six pick in the NFL draft in 1996 of the St. Louis Rams. He played just three seasons in the NFL with the Rams, Dolphins and 49ers. He had 14 touchdowns in his brief career.

He was facing a murder charge for the death of his former cell mate.
