John Rooney is a multiple New York state champion and now, as a junior at Hofstra, the Hoosic Valley grad is one of the best pitchers in the country. Admittedly, it has taken Rooney some time to reach this level, but in an extremely private moment, the 6'5" lefty might tell you he never saw this coming.

Rooney is riding a 44 consecutive scoreless inning streak and thanks in large to that, he has the 2nd-best ERA out of all Division I starting pitchers. That's a near-pristine 0.85 ERA. The statistics continue to baffle. The record is perfect, 7-0 and Rooney's WHIP is top five in the nation at 0.76.

As a junior, Rooney is eligible for June's MLB Draft and with his sparkling numbers on top of the way he has grown, he is certainly a prospect worth watching. John joined Big Board Sports:
