Hurricane Irene Forces Time Change For Saturday’s Giants/Jets Game
With Hurricane Irene taking aim at the New York metropolitan area, the Giants announced that the starting time for their preseason game Saturday against the Jets in MetLife Stadium has been changed from 7 p.m. to 2 p.m.
“We moved the start time based on the weather forecast and to give everybody an opportunity to get home safely after the game,” said Giants President and Chief Executive Officer John Mara in a statement. “There are, obviously, many issues to consider. Our players played a game on Monday night, the stadium personnel has to secure the building post-game and, most importantly, the safety and welfare of Giants and Jets fans. We felt like this is the right thing to do.”
This will be the Giants’ first daytime preseason game in a decade. On Aug. 31, 2001, the Giants and Baltimore Ravens played a preseason rematch of Super Bowl XXXV in what was then called PSINet Stadium. Kickoff was at noon, because the Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners played across the street at Camden Yards that night.
