It’s Gourd-geous! Check Out Saratoga’s Annual Giant Pumpkinfest This Saturday!
There is a fun way to get into the fall spirit for the whole family this weekend in Saratoga. It's the 8th Annual Giant Pumpkinfest. It highlights agriculture and the largest pumpkins you've ever seen!
What Can We Expect at the Giant Pumpkinfest?
It is an annual tradition for pumpkin growers from all over New York state and the Northeast to compete to see who has grown the largest pumpkin. Each year someone is crowned with having "The Biggest Pumpkin of the Year". There are other categories and prizes are given out.
In years past, some of the giant gourds weighed in at over one thousand pounds. This family-friendly official weigh-off event kicks off on Saturday, September 24th at 10 am at Saratoga Springs City Center parking garage in downtown Saratoga Springs.
The festivities are just a short walk from the Saratoga Farmer's Market on High Rock Avenue where you can enjoy specialty foods and drink from local businesses throughout the day.
Check Out The Pumpkin Drop!
New this year, the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce has added a Pumpkin Drop. This will start at 12:30 and will be quite the spectacle. The public will be able to watch as enormous pumpkins are dropped from the top of the Saratoga Springs City Center parking garage four stories up and onto the sidewalk.
Along with the usual festivities, this year, the chamber will introduce a new addition to Pumpkinfest – a Pumpkin Drop. Beginning at 12:30 p.m., the public will have a chance to watch as large pumpkins are dropped from four stories off of the side of the City Center parking garage onto a concrete sidewalk.
Todd Shimkus who is the president of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce said,
What better way to welcome Fall to our beautiful region than with a day of fun activities and a bit of friendly competition? We’re excited to welcome back families, out-of-town visitors, and the local agriculture community to downtown Saratoga Springs to see just how heavy some of these pumpkins end up being.
