New York’s Favorite Road Trip Snack Is…Ice Cream?
We are in the thick of summer right now, which means it's road trip time. People all over the country are packing up their family vehicle and taking a few days to spend on the road with the family. But what are they packing for snacking?
Everyone knows that the snacks make the trip
There are two types of people in the world. There are people who love road trips, and people who hate them. The people who hate them think they're just boring, and they take too long. They obviously haven't done road trips right.
A good road trip requires three things. You need someone you like being with, something good to listen to (whether that's great music or your favorite murder podcast), and some incredible snacks. They're staples for a good road trip.
What makes for a great road trip snack?
When I think of a great road trip snack, they have to be easy to eat (especially if you're the driver). Finger foods are great. Chips and candy are perfect. They can't be a food that when you eat it, it's going to make you terribly sick.
Also, it should stand up to the heat. Unfortunately, when you're taking a summer road trip, it can get warm in the car. Even as delicious as chocolate is, it's not the best for road trips. Peanut M&M's might be one of the only exceptions to this rule. But even they will melt when it gets too hot, I don't care what their slogan says.
How does ice cream come in at the top of the list for the best road trip snack in NY?
I love ice cream. I love it so much. But for the life of me, I cannot understand how Häagen-Dazs ice cream made its way to the top of the list in a study to determine the best road trip snack in New York.
The study was done by Hartley Law to determine the favorite gas station for the nation, and every individual state (it was Byrne Dairy in NY). But it also looked at Google Analytics data to determine the favorite road trip snack. Yes, Häagen-Dazs was New York's.
Of all the things we could be snacking on in the car, other than maybe tacos or soup, it really feels like ice cream is probably the most difficult. Maybe it's because I do most of the driving on trips, so I'm not picturing this from the passenger's point of view, but are we really grabbing pints of ice cream for the road??
