Voting In New York Today? Here Are 2 Things You Can’t Do
It is Tuesday November 3rd, also known as Election Day. Just a heads up, you can't show up to the polls wearing anything you like. There are rules and certain pieces of clothing could be an issue.
The 2026 midterm elections are here and voter turnout is expected to be at record high numbers. Tens of millions of Americans opted to vote early and some estimates show that early voting numbers are up more than 10 million when compared to the 2022 elections. Your vote is very important, so you don't want anything to slow you down.

New York voters will be deciding who will be the Governor of New York from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2030. We will also cast our votes in a few tight congressional races. Stakes are high so we don't want to mess up before our vote is even cast. DO NOT wear any of the following at the polls:
- Clothing, including hats ad buttons, that explicitly support a specific candidate or ballot measure currently up for a vote.
- If you choose to wear or display support of a specific candidate, you won't be turned away, you will be asked to remove or cover up the item.

In 2026 so many people like to document everything with a picture of video for social media. Well, there are voting poll rules for that as well. According to the New York State Senate, it is illegal to take a selfie inside the voting booth in New York.
Most polling locations will have 'I Voted' stickers, which is the preferred way to celebrate your vote.
