Capital Region Village Says No Summer Fireworks at This Popular Spot
A popular spot for Fourth of July fireworks has been canceled due to concerns with the village board. The event took place for decades and drew thousands but officials determined that this year it won't be safe.
The Fourth of July fireworks display at Jumpin' Jacks in Scotia has been canceled due to safety concerns from the Village Board. According to the Daily Gazette, the cancellation was announced by the Village of Scotia. The event was to take place on June 30th.
Why Were The Fireworks Canceled?
The Fourth of July Fireworks at Jumpin' Jacks in Scotia was canceled because the village didn't believe there were enough resources to ensure the safety of the onlookers. They said that there weren't enough safety personnel to monitor and assist the thousands that would attend.
Other Events Will Go On As Planned
This is the first time that Jumpin Jack's has had to cancel their annual fireworks display beside the pandemic and weather-related events. But they will hold its annual concert at Freedom Park before the show and the U.S. Water Ski Team will still perform like they have in past years.
Jumpin' Jack's Fourth of July Celebration Draws Thousands
The celebration has been in Scotia for decades and draws the largest crowds in the village each year. Thousands of people come from the greater Capital Region and they spread out along the Mohawk River, Collins Park, and on the Gateway Bridge connecting the village to Schenectady to enjoy the display. This is the main reason why the village canceled the show.
