GNA Flashback: Watch Toby Keith’s ‘Worst Interview Ever’ at SPAC
In the wake of the very sad news of the passing of Toby Keith, we thought we'd share a lighthearted, and downright funny video featuring the country music icon backstage at SPAC from 2016 which truly is the "Worst Interview Ever". Enjoy!
We Lost a Giant in the Industry
Tuesday morning was a rough one here at the radio station as I'm sure it was for the legions of Toby Keith's biggest fans out here in GNAation. Toby was a giant in the industry, unafraid to speak his mind about life, love, politics, beer, war, and if necessary, other artists.
TK was a larger-than-life personality and performer. The sudden news of his passing early Tuesday - after a courageous two-year battle with stomach cancer - was felt throughout the Capital Region.
GNAtion flooded our studio with phone calls, and our social media platforms with thousands of thoughtful comments, incredible personal stories, photos, and more.
Sadly, we won't see this country music icon perform live here in the Capital Region, but if you were lucky enough to have seen him during one of his many Upstate NY shows over the years, those are core memories you'll always have.
The Lighter Side of Toby Keith
One of our core memories here at GNA came back in August of 2016 when Toby played before a raucous country crowd at SPAC. A few hours before the gentle giant would take the stage, he allowed GNA content contributor Nick Kessler to ask him some questions while chilling out on his tour bus.
In the interview, Kessler awkwardly asked questions like an unpolished intern, embodying the late Chris Farley and the old SNL sketches where Farley would nervously fidget and squirm saying things like "So...you were a Beatle? That's pretty cool!" to the likes of legit superstars Paul McCartney.
GNA's Worst Interview Ever
Kessler's version was equally as funny - and gutsy. He had no idea how Keith would react as he nervously fumbled and bumbled his way through a series of embarrassing questions and comments about - among other things - Keith's salary and his love for Build-A-Bear.
The country music world lost a legend, but the memories are etched forever. RIP, TK
