Snowmobilers in Old Forge Have Jaw-Dropping Close Encounter With Moose
Wow! What an Encounter
You never quite know what you’ll run into while exploring the Vast Adirondacks — and this incredible moment captured in Old Forge, New York proves it.
Often called the “unicorns of the Adirondacks,” moose are majestic, elusive, and hardly ever seen in person.
According to the NYS DEC, only 400 to 700 moose live throughout the entire Adirondack region. With so few roaming such a big wilderness, an encounter like this is pretty much hitting the wildlife jackpot.
Young, Curious Moose Poses for Pics
But a group of snowmobilers recently had a breathtakingly close encounter with a young Moose while riding through the snowy trails near Old Forge. The video, shared to Facebook by Scott Campbell over the weekend, shows the massive animal calmly walking right up to the riders as they pause along the trail.

Even though the moose appears young and curious, its size is still stunning. Standing just feet away from the snowmobiles, the moose looks almost as tall as the riders themselves while casually investigating the group. At one point, it even seems to pose for a few photos as the snowmobilers take in the rare moment.
I'd Be Worried About a Protective Mother
Watching the video, your heart can’t help but race a little. Encounters like this are unforgettable, but they also come with a bit of suspense. In the Adirondacks, you never know if a protective mother might be somewhere nearby.
Thankfully, this meeting stayed peaceful and gave the riders, as well as everyone watching online, a remarkable reminder of just how wild and incredible the Adirondacks can be.
It’s not every day you find yourself face-to-face with one of the North Country’s most majestic animals.
