The team behind a popular Slingerlands Mexican restaurant just added a new spot across the river.

Grand Margaritas Mexican Brunch and Cocktails is now open in the Hannaford Plaza on Columbia Turnpike in East Greenbush. Owners Damian Company and Edgar Guerra, along with a third partner, are also part of Las Margaritas Mexican Cantina in Slingerlands, which opened in 2024 and quickly built a following.

According to operating manager Aida Zhilyaeva, the success of the Las Margaritas Mexican Cantina restaurant made it clear they were outgrowing the space. Customers loved the food and the energy, but the layout limited what they could do.

They wanted room for bigger crowds, more events, and a livelier atmosphere, and East Greenbush felt like the right fit. The area has plenty of places to eat, but very few full-service Mexican restaurants, and not many spots designed for families, birthday groups, or anyone looking for a fun night out.

According to the Albany Business Review, the new location was previously an appliance store, so the team spent about 10 months building the restaurant from the ground up, including the kitchen. Now it seats more than 200 people and includes a private event room.

Unlike their Slingerlands location, which is cozy and often packed, this space was designed with trivia nights, dancing, and late-night events in mind.

Grand Margaritas also leans into brunch, serving it every day, with items like Mexican-style eggs Benedict and breakfast burritos, alongside their full Mexican menu.

For the owners, it is less about replacing their Slingerlands success and more about giving it room to grow.
