Shen Bus Driver Arrested

A Shenendehowa school bus driver has been arrested after State Police say he allegedly had inappropriate physical contact with a child in Malta.

The New York State Police say they arrested 49-year-old Donald R. Barnes Jr. of Malta on Friday, August 7th, charging him with Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

According to State Police, troopers received a complaint that day alleging Barnes had inappropriate physical contact with a child under the age of 17.  State Police say the child was not related to him.

Tried to Kiss Child on the Mouth

Investigators allege that Barnes attempted to kiss the child on the mouth while in the Town of Malta.

State Police didn't say where the incident occurred, but they stressed that it did not take place on Shenendehowa Central School District property or during a school-related event.

However, State Police say their investigation determined that Barnes had met the child through his employment as a school bus operator with the Shenendehowa Central School District.

Barnes was arrested at his Malta home and taken to State Police Saratoga for processing. He was later arraigned in Malta Town Court and released on his own recognizance.

Barnes is accused of a crime and is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
