La Salle graduate JP Sportman was moved up to AA in the Oakland A's system earlier this week. He joined the Midland Rockhounds in time for the Texas League Championship Series, which Midland currently leads 2-0.

Former Shen star Murphy Smith also played for the Rockhounds last season with the A's system, but he was with the Blue Jays this year.

Sportman is hitting .298 this season, spending nearly the entire season High-A Stockton of the Cal League.

He joined us today to talk about the emotions of being pulled up to AA and he told us how frustrating the season was as a whole. Sportman missed significant time this year due to injuries and was on the disabled list twice.

Furthermore, we asked Sportman how cool it is for him to be a part of the small group of Capital Region natives that is making it -- and succeeding -- at the professional level.
